Before you buy kettlebells there are a number of things you should consider. The first of these is what size you should get. Most men will want to start with a single 16kg/36lb kettlebell. If you are already quite fit and have been doing weight training for a few months you might consider starting with a 24kg/54lb kettlebell. Women usually start with either an 8kg or 12kg ball depending on their fitness level.

If in doubt, you are better off going with the lower weight since they seem much heavier than the figures suggest when you are actually exercising with them! Going with a lighter kettlebell will also make it easier to learn the correct form for each exercise before you move up to a heavier weight.

Should I Buy Cheap Kettlebells?

Not all kettlebells are created equal, so when you buy kettlebells online don’t go straight for the cheapest offer. A good kettlebell will last you a lifetime so it makes sense to invest a bit extra in your equipment, rather than regretting your decision each time you use it.

I have tried out a few different makes and by far the most comfortable to use is my 35lb Russian Kettlebell from Dragon Door. Kettlebell Routines

Kettlebell Swings

Once used exclusively by first strong men and then Russian athletes, the kettlebell is used all around the world now from athletes of every walk including well known sports teams, to martial artists to everyday trainers. And at the core of every good workout is kettlebell swings.

The swing, done with either one or both hands involves raising the kettlebell with a sudden strong movement (hiking) from between your legs. Kettlebell Exercises

While most kettlebell exercises involve a wide variety of motions they fall into two primary categories. Those labeled grinds have slower, controlled movements and ballistic exercises are the ones that involve a fast swinging motion.
