Kettlebell Swings

December 6th, 2011

Once used exclusively by first strong men and then Russian athletes, the kettlebell is used all around the world now from athletes of every walk including well known sports teams, to martial artists to everyday trainers. And at the core of every good workout is kettlebell swings.

The swing, done with either one or both hands involves raising the kettlebell with a sudden strong movement (hiking) from between your legs. Though there are several moves the basic kettlebell swings consists of the forward and upward movement of the bell in a circular motion before it returns to the starting position between your legs.
Although the kettlebell swing appears to be easy they provide a tough workout that is beneficial to all parts of the back training all of the muscles together. Swings also work the abs as well as strengthening your core and providing a stable platform for other muscles such as the hamstrings and gluts. Sings enable the athlete to combine cardiovascular and resistance training in one workout.

Kettlebell swings are great for those who need to burn fat as well. This is especially true when the workout is performed with high intensity. Sites such as Dragon Door and
Art of Strength can prove invaluable for those serious about a kettlebell workout.
